Prominent Revolutionary War soldier.

Son of James Thompson Sr. (1714-1749).

Brother to Alexander, Samuel, Robert, and William Thompson.

Mother Ruth Steele Thompson remarried to Samuel Futhey about 1750.

Captain Thompson informed Mr. Linn in the book, Annals of Buffalo Valley, that he accompanied his step-father, Samuel Futhey, who drove a wagon from Fort Cumberland in Braddock's disastrous campaign. Captain Thompson was then a lad of but ten years of age.
