Note: The information below about Adam Frederick is a quote taken from Book Two of "Recollections of Bygone Days in the Cove," written by Ella M. Snowberger and published by the Morrison's Cove Herald in 1934.
"Mr. Shoeman's (Henry) mother's first husband, a man by the name of Frederick, set out on foot to visit relatives in a distant section. (around 1824-25.) He was never seen or heard from again. It is presumed that either the Indians or the wolves got him."
About 1826, Sarah was united in marriage to her second husband, John Shoeman. They resided in Blair County, PA, and were the parents of the following children: Henry, born in 1827; Jacob about 1832; Peter about 1833; Catherine in 1834; and David in 1838. Husband, John, died about the year 1854. Son, Peter, then became her sole means of support. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Civil War and was killed in May, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness. For the next thirteen years it is believed Sarah lived with neighbors, friends, and family until the time of her death in October, 1877.
