CATHARINE A. 'CASS' STICKELL,87, a resident of Meno Haven, Chambersburg, and formerly of 5152 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Aug. 19, 1911, in Upton, she was the daughter of the late Harry V. and Estella (Boyd) Angle.
Her husband, Fred R. Stickell, died in 1971.
She was a 1931 graduate of Lemasters High School and attended nurse's training in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Stickell was a member of of the Upton community for 76 years.
Mrs. Stickell, along with her husband, was a self-employed merchant
having operated Stickell's General Store in Upton for 25 years before retiring in 1978.
She was a life member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Upton.
Mrs. Stickell was a member of numerous community organizations. She
was a charter member of Greencastle-Antrim Lioness Club and Greencastle AARP Chapter 3025. She also was a member of Upton Homemakers Club, Greencastle-Antrim Women's Fellowship and Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters.
She was a member and historian for Conococheague Institute of Welsh
Run.
Mrs. Stickell had served as a volunteer for American Red Cross, the
Daffodil Days of the American Cancer Society and with Greencastle-Antrim Lioness volunteers at Piney Mountain Home.
She is survived by a sister, Susan A. Shook of Ravenwood Luthern
Village, Hagerstown; a brother, Robert H. Angle of Laurel, Miss.; and two nieces and two nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Upton, with the Rev. Douglas Hodges officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeeral Home, Greencastle, and one hour prior to the services Monday in the church.
Mrs. Stickell requested that flowers be omitted and memorial
contributions be made to St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, 5441
Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
