WAYMART C.S. Beckwith, Builder, Dies On Anniversary
Claud S. Beckwith, 67, 470 Honesdale Rd., Waymart, building contractor who erected the Waymart Baptist Church, died at his home Sunday afternoon after an illness. Mr. Beckwith, who was a carpenter by trade,was in the building business most of his life. He and his wife, the former Lena Swingle of East Canaan, were observing their 46th wedding anniversary Sunday when he died. A native of South Clinton, son of the late Edwin H. And Melinda A. Hinds Beckwith, he lived in the Waymart area most of his life. He was a member of Waymart Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. James Gilhooley, Waymart; Mrs. Floyd Welles, Bossier City, LA.; three sons, Lloyd, Newdale, NC.; Howard, East Orange, NJ.; and Russell, Cicero, NY.; a sister, Mrs. Cora Estell, Westmont, IN.; 17 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Shifler Funeral Home, 170 Belmont St., Waymart, with Rev. R.A. Edwards, Waymart Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.
