BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. - Neva B. How, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at her home in Baxter Springs, after a sudden illness.
Mrs. How was born in Bentonville, Ark. on Sept. 13, 1916, the daughter of Wesley Akers and Effie (Edwards) Mason.
She had lived in Baxter Springs since 1948.
Mrs. How was a direct descendant of Jonathan Edwards, a well-known New England preacher of revival, theologian, philosopher and writer of the 1700s.
Mrs. How was a long-time member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Baxter Springs.
Neva B. Mason and Charles Glendon How Sr. were united in marriage on Dec. 8, 1935 in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1988.
Survivors include her children: Charles G. How Jr., Baxter Springs, Beverly Blake, Tulsa, Okla., Rosemary How, Joplin, and L. Stanley How, Springdale, Ark.; a sister, Mrs. Charles Moore, Hot Springs, Ark.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Baxter Springs. Rev. Doyle Frazier and Rev. Fred Ryman will officiate.
Burial will be held at Baxter Cemetery, Baxter Springs.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.

Note: They moved to Baxter from Spring Grove in Galena, KS. I started to Spring Grove School with Beverly in 1945. Mrs. Mildred Parkes was our teacher. We had Miss Nadine Gandy for our teacher in the second grade. Charles was also in Spring Grove School at the time.
