In 1860 census, Washington County, Ohio, living in Watertown Twp., in household of Alexander W. Beebe. He enlisted in Co. L, 1st Ohio Cavalry in December 1863. Was taken sick in Tennessee in March 1864 of smallpox, and lay in a hospital for several months. Rejoined his regiment upon his recovery and was discharged on September 28, 1865.

Enlisted: 22 Dec 1863 / Side Served: Union / State Served: Ohio / Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 22 December 1863 at the age of 24 / Enlisted in Company L, 1st Cavalry Regiment Ohio on 22 Dec 1863 / Mustered Out Company L, 1st Cavalry Regiment Ohio on 26 Sep 1865.
