Chico Record, Sunday Morning, July 30, 1916, pg 5 col 3: Patrick M’Gann, Pioneer Stock Man, Passes Away. Patrick McGann, for forty-nine years a resident of Butte county, died at his summer home in Butte Meadows early yesterday morning. He had been confined to his bed for several years. He was seventy-nine years old.

McGann was born in County Roscommon, Ireland, in 1937, and was the son of James and Betsey McGann. His father was a stock raiser and land agent. When twenty-five years old he left Ireland and went to New York, where he remained until he came to Chico.

Since coming to America he had been engaged in the stock business until a year prior to his death, when he retired. He was extremely active in his last year, and his friends believe the necessity of remaining inactive hastened his death.

McGann served the government in the Civil War, having joined the Fifth New York Regiment. He was a member of Halleck Post, G.A.R.

Funeral services will be held in the Catholic church Monday morning at 10 o’clock, Father Greely officiating. Interment will be made in Chico cemetery.

Surviving are: Mrs. Tessie Conroy of New York a sister; William Alexander of New York; P.O.V. McGann and W.J. McGann of Chico, nephews; Mrs. John Cussick of Chico, a niece; Mrs. Eliza Sharkey and Mrs. Mary O’Neil, of San Francisco, cousins.
