Leon B. "Pete" Losey, 85, of 914 N. 11th St., formerly of 1924 N. 10th St., died Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at Morningside Health Center where he had been a resident since July 2005.


Pete was born August 22, 1921, to the late Howard and Harriet Bancroft Losey in the Town of Charlestown in Calumet County. He attended local schools and Chilton High School. Pete was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church.


On June 8, 1946, he was united in marriage to Doris Goebel at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary this past June.


He served in the US. Army Air Corps from 1942 to March of 1946 achieving the rank of Sergeant. After receiving his basic training he served in North Africa at Oran, Casablanca, Tunis, and Tripoli, always attached to the Motor Pools. His love of trucks and semi driving carried into civilian life. After a short stint at the Kohler Company he drove 25 years for Russell Transfer Company, retiring in 1981.


After retiring, he and Doris spent 16 winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas living in their trailer. They spent many happy weeks camping in Door County as well as local parks. He especially enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren on the camping trips. He was an avid golfer and dartball player with St. Paul Rams whose team he captained for 20 years. Pete enjoyed playing cards, especially spades with his brothers and sisters. He taught his children and grand children to play cribbage. He and Doris were a 3 games a day couple. He volunteered for Meal on Wheels, Big Brothers, Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center as well as various boards and committees at St. Paul Lutheran Church and Bethesda Thrift Store.


Pete was a life member of VFW Sheboygan Memorial Post 9156, as well as an adopted life member of the Germans from Russia He was a member of the Teamsters Local # 75


Pete is survived by his wife Doris; two children Donald (Patty) Losey, Beecher, WI and Rose Anne (Phil) Buteyn, Sheboygan: four grandchildren, Liza (Scot) Donath, Tami (Chad) Kather, both of Sheboygan, Brian Buteyn, Fargo, ND, Rebecca (fiancé Joel Fetterer) Buteyn, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; five great grandchildren, Cameron Donath, Tanner Donath, Kay Lee O'Conner, Marek Kather, Dominick Devroy; two brothers, Arthur (Shirley) Losey, Gordon Losey, two sisters, Lucy Mae (Herman) Duga, Detta (Norbert) Dettloff, both of Milwaukee WI, three sisters-in-law Evelyn Losey, Springbrook, WI, Phyllis Losey, Milwaukee, Alice Goebel, Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by twin infant grandsons and four brothers, Floyd, Dewayne, Wilbur and Ralph.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 24, 2007, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, N. 13th St. & Lincoln Ave., with the Rev. Alan Kretschmar, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.


A memorial fund has been established in his name for St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and the American Alzheimer's Association


The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Morningside Health Center for the loving care they gave Pete.
