The May 23, 1938 edition of The Robesonian included the following: Miss McCallum Brought To Midway For Funeral – Funeral services for Miss Josephine McCallum, 27, who died Friday in New York city after several days' illness, were conducted Sunday afternoon from Midway Presbyterian church, and interment was made in the McCallum-McGirt cemetery in that section. Officiating minister was Rev. L. W. topping, pastor of Rowland Presbyterian Church. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. L. McCallum of Midway, between Rowland and Maxton, Miss McCallum attended school in Rowland and Anderson, S. C. and graduated as a nurse from Hazard hospital, Long Branch, N.Y. Until her death she had been nursing in New York city. She was a member of Ashpole Presbyterian church near Rowland. The body was brought here Sunday morning and taken to the home of Mrs. Fred McDonald at Midway prior to the funeral. Surviving are 8 brothers: L.M., N.B., Howard and Leroy McCallum of Lumberton; J.F. and R.B. of Anderson, S.C.; H.C. of Moultrie, Fla., and J. T. McCallum of Maxton. Pallbearers were: James Smith, Mallory McPhaul, Walton McRae, R. H. McGirt, Tom McRimmon, J. F. Bullock, Evans McLean, Sherwood McLean.
