Urijah (or Uriah) Ward was born in 1746 in Union City, New Haven County, Connecticut. His parents were Obadiah Ward and Esther Ruggles. He married Prudence Clark on November 18, 1764 in Brimfield, Hampden county, Massachusetts. They had nine children named Ruben, Asa, Benjamin, John, Abigail (Mrs. John Durant), Graves, Bathsheba (Mrs. Dennie Durant), Abner, and Calvin. During the Revolutionary War, Urijah served as the following: a Private in the Company of Captain Thomas Gates, Massachusetts Militia, at Lexington Alarm ; Sergeant of Captain Samuel Hubbard's Company, Colonel Job Cushing's Regiment, 1777 ; Lieutenant of Captain Ebenezer Belknap's Company, Colonel Nathaniel Wade's Regiment, 1778-1779. Urijah died on June 7, 1820 in Palmer, Hampden County, Massachusetts.
