Roman Catholic Cardinal. The elder brother of renowned sacred music composer Msgr. Lorenzo (1872-1956), Carlo Perosi entered seminary in his native Tortona, later furthering his studies in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome and the Collegio Lombardo. Ordained priest on November 8, 1891, he was named faculty member at the seminary of Tortona of which he also served as vice-rector. Appointed counselor adjunct for the Provincial Councils in Rome on September 21, 1904, he served as visitor to the seminaries of Sicily in 1907. Named Domestic Prelate of His Holiness on May 15, 1907, he was furthermore named substitute of the Sacred Consistorial Congregation on October 20, 1908; regent of the Sacred Apostolic Penitentiary on December 7, 1911; canon of the chapter of the Patriarchal Liberian Basilica in 1915; assessor of the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office on December 8, 1916; and canon of the chapter of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica on March 6, 1917. Pope Pius XI created him cardinal deacon in the consistory of June 21, 1926 with the deaconry of Sant'Eustachio. Appointed pro-secretary of the Sacred Consistorial Congregation on February 10, 1928 and its secretary on the following November 1, he acted as superior general of the Scalabrinian Fathers between 1928 and his death which occurred on February 22, 1930. Originally interred inside the Campo Verano Cemetery of Rome, in 1959, his remains along with those of his brother Monsignor Lorenzo, who was also buried inside the named cemetery, were exhumed and transferred to the cathedral of Tortona.
