Williamson Nipper was born in Virginia. His father moved to Alabama when he was 12 or 15 years of age, and from there to the vicinity of Nashville, TN. He was there married to Nancy Moore. She had twins, and the mother and children died. He was then married to Hepsey Gibson, who was born in Franklin Co. TN. They had three children and moved to Sangamon Co. IL arriving in the fall of 1829 about one mile east of the present town of Loami, where six children were born. (from "History of the Early Settlers Sangamon Co. IL by John Carroll Power - 1876")

Williamson was a successful farmer and land owner, first purchasing public lands from the Government in 1833. Most of his land was in Sections 18 and 19 north and west of the village of Loami.

His stone is still readable, although not standing. It reads: Williamson Nipper - Died Aug 27, 1843 - aged 45 yrs 11 ms. 8 ds.
