OBITUARY
J.J. Lindsay of Windsor, one of the best known citizens of Sonoma county, died very suddenly at his home in Windsor Saturday evening.
Mr. Lindsay was born Dec 25 1828 in Ripley county, Indiana. When he was but a small boy, his father with a family of nine, crossed the plains to Oregon. In the spring of 1849 the family came to Green Valley, Sonoma county. They located on a ranch and it was there Mr. Lindsay's father died in 1851. J.J. Lindsay worked on the farm until 1862 when he went to Nevada. There he worked in the mines and built a quartz mill, which for a time was very successful. Afterward he went to Windsor and went into the general merchandising business. He continued in this business almost continually ever since. In 1859 he married Miss Esther A. Clark, a resident of Windsor. For many years he has been postmaster at that place and few men in that part of the county had so many friends. He was prominent in Odd Fellowship and at that time of his death was district deputy.
Mr. Lindsay was a member of Russian River Masonic Lodge and his funeral will be held under the auspices of that order.
