"Alfred V. Alton, of Company E. enrolled Nov. 1, 1864 in Evansville Indiana by Corp. Blyth Hynes as Private; mustered in November 1, 1864 in Evansville by Corp. Blyth Hynes at age 19. He was 5’ 9” tall, fair complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair. Born Jun. 3, 1846 in Vincennes in Knox Co., Indiana employed as a farmer, single, resident of Harrison, in Knox Co., Indiana Died of typhoid fever Jun. 29, 1865 in Chattanooga, Tennessee with rank of Private.

Notes: Brother to John Alton, and son of William H. Alton, and Martha Jane Alton. Signed his name with an ‘X’. Substitute for Jacob Myers. Sick in Chattanooga Hospital #1 Jun. 24, 1865, where he died; buried in Grave 36 (now H10461) as Alfred B. Alton, Sec. H, Chattanooga Cemetery. Death dates of Jun. 28 and 29 also found."
