Harvey Case was born Sept 29, 1830 in the town of Irondequoit, Monroe County, New York, being the eighth child in the family of twelve born to his parents, Hannah and Henry Case, who came from Duchess County to make their home in the wilderness. At that time there were but three log cabins on the east side of the Genesee River where the city of Rochester now stands, the farm on which they located Was three miles out from the river (east). Uncle Harvey and most of his brothers and sisters came to Michigan and were pioneers in Calhoun and Barry counties. His parents were members of the Society of Friends and according to the Discipline their children were birthright members of the society and they went to meeting not only every Sunday morning called First Day, but also at the same hour on Wednesday, Fourth Day. On March 30, 1859 Uncle Harvey was married to Nancy Wilkes, a daughter of his neighbor and a most estimable woman who passed away about eight years ago, sincerely mourned by all especially by the lone old husband. Thus left alone, not able to manage his farm, he sold to Wilson, his youngest son, but he retained the privilege of remaining there for three years. In the mean time having lost his health it seemed best he go to live with his son, Lucas, on the old farm where he passed away after a long illness. He leaves to mourn his loss, four sons, Lucas W. at whose home he died, also George H. of Johnstown, Homer W. of Charlestown, Kalamazoo Co. and Wilson of Bedford, also three daughters, Nettie Mamby of Bedford, Olive, wife of Arther Miller, who passed away several years ago and Eliza, wife of Enos Foss of Penfield and many grand children and several great grand children, besides a large number of nieces and nephews. He was the last survivor of the family of twelve born and reared on the old homestead at Quaker Hill, Irondequoit, New York.
