PROVIDENCE, NC - Alvin Pickeral, 85, of 483 Park Springs Lake Road died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 31, 1923 in Java, Virginia a son of Reynard P. Pickeral and Hettie Mae Atkinson Pickeral and lived in Pittsylvania County until moving to the Park Springs com-munity in 1948.

Mr. Pickeral worked for Dan River Mills for over 35 years and was also a farmer. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II serving as a medic in the European Theatre. Mr. Pickeral was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the American Legion Post 1097.

On December 21, 1946 he was married to Elnora Harriett Worley Pickeral, who died May 28, 2001.

Survivors include three sons, Roger Lee Pickeral and his wife, Susan of Providence, Den-nis Edwin Pickeral and his wife, Robyn of Hampton, VA and Timothy Paul Pickeral and his wife, Vicki of Spartanburg, SC; two brothers, Leonard Lee Pickeral and George E. Pickeral and a sister, Ruby Mae Griffin all of Providence; numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Alvin Ramsey Pickeral and two sisters, Rena P. Kirks and Helen Mack Wilson.
