Joseph was the son of Joseph & Experience Holbrooke Edson and one of three children.
On 07 Jun 1704, he married Lydia Cary. They were the parents of 10 children-Sarah (died young), Hannah (Allen), Lydia, Joseph, Bethiah (Whitman), John (died young), Daniel (died young), David, Jesse, and James.
