EDITH BENNETT STARRETT BURKS
Edith Burks, 95, Springfield passed away, Monday, February 19, 2001 in her sleep in St. John's Mercy Villa.
She was born Nov. 19, 1905, to Benjamin and Mary Alice Bennett, near Seymour.
She was a graduate of Seymour High School and active in the Alumni Association for many years. She was a past matron of the Eastern Star and a member for more than 50 years, mother adviser of Rainbow Girls and affiliated with the Crescent Chapter of the Eastern Star in Springfield. She was a member of National Avenue Christian Church.
Edith was married to Maurice Starrett Nov. 7, 1925, who preceded her in death Nov. 11, 1958. She married Theron T. Burks Oct. 16, 1964.
Nine siblings preceded her in death. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Theron, Springfield; stepson- Bill Burks and wife, Suzanne, Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two nieces, Evelyn Thiessen and husband Raymond, Buhler, Kan.; and Betty McAnally and husband, Sam, Overland Park, Kan.; two nephews, Ben Ferguson and wife, Sue, Seymour, Mo., and Jim McDaniel and wife Marilyn, Sea Ranch, Calif.; many great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South Chapel, with burial in Seymour Masonic Cemetery, Seymour, Mo.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday in the funeral chapel.
Memorial are suggest to the American Heart Association or National Avenue Christian Church.
