Alden, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, enjoyed a long and full life. He was a navy signalman, musician, actor, director, producer, comedian, missionary, bishop, patriarch, and temple worker. He worked in the broadcast industry cuing KSL Television on the air June 1, 1949 for its first broadcast. He also directed the first televised Tabernacle Choir broadcast and the first televised BYU-Utah basketball game. Alden loved music. He played the saxophone in many dance bands. He was an avid golfer and played golf as long as he could, even after he lost most of his sight. Alden also loved model railroading.
Alden is survived by his wife, Barbara, their children, Vicki Kartchner (Brent), Mark, Bryan (Candy), and Sheila Beckstrand (Barry), as well as Rebecca Richards, Alden LeGrand (Cindy) and Anita Todd (Gordon). His posterity includes numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Garden Heights Ward Chapel, 2220 East Fisher Lane (2940 South). Friends may visit with the Family on Sunday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East and at the Church on Monday morning from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. prior to Services.
Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
