Died.
In Madrid, St. Lawrence Co., on Thursday, the 19th (Inst?) William L. Horton, aged 39 years.
Mr. Horton removed from this town to Madrid, to take charge of the estate of his uncle, Hon. John Horton, within the last year, where he had acquired a large circle of friends.
His funeral was attended at the Presbyterian Church here (Malone), last Sabbath morning; sermon by the Rev. Dr. Parmelee. He died in the blessed hope of salvation through Jesus.
The following obituary we reproduce from the Ogdensburgh Journal:
"The death of our friend merits more than a passing tribute. Ever amiable, generous and affectionate, he was loved by his friends for those endearing traits, but with the close of life came a change in his character, which causes the hearts of his friends to rejoice, although removed from them. As his Christian character unfolded, new views of duty and usefulness were so manifest that none could doubt that he had learned Christ Jesus, and Him crucified.
"His health warned him of a short stay on earth, but he felt that he was willing to live or die as God pleased, if he could show his submission to His will. Ever generous to the poor and needy, during his last months of life, 'freely he gave, as freely he had received.' Death found him ready, with messages of love to the absent, and prayer, with farewells to his family, he sleeps in Jesus. A Friend"
