Bessie Novak Wischnofske July 3, 1916 - Dec. 1, 1999 Bessie Novak Wischnofske of Corvallis died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 83.
She was born to John and Frances Hadachek Novak in Bellville, Kan., the fourth of seven children. The family came to Oregon in 1933, settling in Blodgett. She married Arthur Otto Wischnofske in Corvallis April 1, 1935. They farmed in Blodgett until her husband's death.
Her first priority was her family, and she loved family gatherings. She also enjoyed traveling to the ocean, Hawaii and occasionally to Spirit Mountain Casino. She was awarded many bowling trophies and also liked roller skating, deep sea fishing, hunting, dancing and caring for her many pets.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Philomath, the Blodgett Community Quilting Club and the widow's luncheon group in Blodgett.
She is survived by her son, Merle G. Wischnofske of Wenatchee, Wash.; daughter, Shirley Rae Sheele of Corvallis; sisters, Lillian Rosen of Salem and Jennie Paul of College Place, Wash.; brothers, John Novak of Prineville and Louis Novak of Elk City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 27, 1982, and two brothers, Ray and Michael.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
