My dear great-grandmother, Myrtle Alden, was born to Andrew Jackson Alden & Beady Elizabeth Penny in Mound City, Illinois on October 29, 1871. She was the youngest of 5 Alden children. Her father, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Alden was a well-respected newspaper publisher who founded several newspapers throughout Southern Illinois. Myrtle was a lineal descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims John Alden and Priscilla Mullins.

Myrtle Alden married Dr. Albert M. Harrison on June 7, 1899. They had three children: Helen Elizabeth Harrison, Dorothy Ann Harrison & John Alden Harrison. Myrtle passed away during the great influenza epidemic in 1913 at the age of 41. At the time of her death, the Harrison children were just 13, 11 and 9 respectively. Myrtle's dear sister, Martha Rebecca Alden, known to the family as "Aunt Mat" came to live with the family and helped raise the children until they left home for college.

Myrtle Alden Harrison is buried beside her husband in the Harrison Family plot.
