Obituaries of Ontario Co., NY, Ontario Messenger, 28 Oct. 1846: Another Revolutionary Vet Gone. John HINCKLEY (1761, Willington, CT - 23 Sep. 1846, Naples, NY) served under Capt. Ichabod HINCKLEY as a drummer; General PUTNAM at Peekskill; General WASHINGTON at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777; in the Battle of Monmouth, 1778; under General WAYNE, 16 July 1779, at Stony Point. He moved from Connecticut to Naples ca. 1804.

He was a twin. John Hinckley, (1761-1846), enlisted as a drummer at the age of sixteen; was at Fort Griswold, 1781, and served to the close of the war in the Connecticut Line. In 1818 he was listed as a pensioner of Ontario Co., N. Y., where he died.
