Sylvia was born in London, England and met Frank during World War II, when both were serving during the war. They were married at the close of the war on June 3, 1945 and had celebrated their Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary this year. After the war they moved first to Kenora, Ontario and then later to Calgary, where they lived for over fifty years.
Sylvia is survived by her husband Frank; two daughters and two sons, Gillian (Sheldon) Glazer and Beverley Ashkin of Toronto, and Lloyd (Karen) Ashkin and David (Mandy) Ashkin of Calgary; seven grandchildren, Harvey (Tammy) Glazer, Suzanne (Steve) Bruce, Bradley, Allison, Benjamin, Jonathan and Mitchell Ashkin; a great-granddaughter Rylee Glazer; and her sister Sandra (Barney) Faber; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Hetty Waterman, and her brothers, Bernie and Paul Waterman.
Sylvia was actively involved in Hadassah Wizo for many years as well as the Shaarey Tzedec Synagogue Sisterhood. She was a talented cook, who could just as easily cater a meal for four hundred people as she could for eight family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
