Mrs. H.C. (Alice) Shober, 95, long-time resident of Huron who formerly lived at 513 California Ave. S.W., died Sunday morning at the Prairie Center Nursing home, Miller.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald C. Gastafson officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Highmore Cemetery with committal rite by the Highmore Chapter No. 68 Order of Eastern Star.
Pallbearers will be Scott Dexter, H. Kirke Wheeler, A.M. Haskell Jr., William Churchilll, Eugene Kingdon, Curtis Crawford and Wesley Broer.
Friend may call at the funeral home Monday evening.
Alice Shuey was born Dec 28, 1875, at Shueyville, Iowa, the daughter of Fredrick B. and Jane Bowman Shuey. In 1882 she move with her parents to St. Lawrence wher she attended school. She attended Otterhein College, Westerville, Ohio, two years. In 1894 she was married to Howard C. Shober and they moved to Highmore where they resided until 1910.
From 1910 to 1911, the family lived in Washington, D.C., where Mr. Shober was auditor for the Interior Department under President William Howard Taft. The family returned to South Dakota in 1914 and established their home in Huron. Since Oct. 3, 1966, Mrs. Shober had been a resident of the Prairie Center Nursing Home. She was a life member of the Highmore OES and long-tme member of the United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. E.C. (Miriam) McKenzie and one son Howard T., both of Huron; one granddaughter, Mrs. Wesley (Sara) Broer, Custer; one great-grandchild, Mark Broer; one sister Mrs. Jane Ramsey, Great Bend, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in April, 1956, and two sisters, Mrs. Olivia Whitham and Mrs. Ella Bowlby.
