This photo shows a very elderly man who made the trip to Oregon Territory in his 58th year of life, taking the Southern Route from St. Joseph, Missouri and arriving in Polk County in the Oregon Territory in Sept 1847. The wagon train was led by a nephew, Albert Franklin Davidson who had 1st come to Oregon in 1846, then returned to Illinois to guide his family to the Oregon Territory the following year. This photo was given to my cousin, Frances Ann "Fannie" Burkhart, his maternal granddaughter. He is my 3x great grandfather. Fannie's mother was one of his daughters, Melissa Ann Davidson, who married Leander Columbus Burkhart.
The handwriting is Fannie's.

This is the only picture that exists of Hezekiah's wife, Melissa Ann Page, daughter of Rev.Carter Tarrant Page, fondly known as "Lucy Ann". They married in 1821 in Kentucky and she bore nine children during their marriage. I am guessing this was taken in the mid 1870's as she died in 1877. This lady had come to the Oregon Territory in 1847 when she was already 42 yrs. of age. This photo, and her husband's, were in Frances Ann "Fannie" Burkhart's photo album, which was handed down thru about four generations. I am grateful we have it as there was another one that ended up in an antique store in Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. I tried to purchase it but didn't have the money and it had been sold by the time I had the cash and returned. The photos had been thrown away and the album sold.

Tombstone is in three pieces. located top of road loop. Other Davidsons are nearby. Hezekiah's inscription on top angled portion and Melissa Ann's inscription below that.

Sun was in a good position to take a better photo than my 2018 photo. Otherwise, name is obscured in non-direct lighting. I kept the 2018 photo because Melissa Ann's inscription is readable. Taken on Good Friday 2021.
