Mrs. Jamie Stinson Atkins, age 87, Rome died Friday, July 11, 2008, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Atkins was born in Morgan County, AL, the daughter of the late Martin Stinson and Annie Mardas Stinson. Mrs. Atkins was a member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church. She worked at Southern Craft as a seamstress. Mrs. Atkins was the last of twelve children and loved to cook and make crafts.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Atkins is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Wilson Atkins on July 8, 1994, to whom she was married to on January 22, 1939; two sons, Roy G. Atkins on December 17, 1997 and Hugh E. Atkins on August 31, 2004; and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Westmoreland on February 9, 2003.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Martina Atkins of Rome, Raymond L. and Penny Atkins of Rome, Jackie Atkins of Ozark, AL, and Betty Atkins of Rome; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 13, 2008, in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Hopper officiating. Interment followed in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were: Troy Atkins, Glenn Atkins, Jeff Atkins, Robert Atkins, Roy Atkins, and Brian Atkins. The honorary pallbearers were her great-grandsons.
