In 1910 they were living on their own on E. 17th Ave. in Portland.
By 1920, however, there had been a drastic change; Alexander was now working as a mechanic making auto repairs (quite a change from being a pharmacist!) and not only did they have a daughter, Jane, b.@1916, but they were also living w/his parents on N. Willis, Portland with her mother-in-law, Helen M. Shaw, b.Oregon, @1860, and her brother-in-law, Edward Shaw, b.@1897, a stenographer.
By 1930, Ruth was divorced from Alexander; she and Jane were lvg. on E. 21st Ave., paying $37.50 rent, and she was working as a Multnomah County Court Clerk. Jane was 14 and in school.
By 1940, Jane was no longer in the home, hadn't been for some time. Ruth was still working for the County, but now living at 712 SW Salmon St., Portland, and had been since at least 1935. Ruth died on Mar 29, 1975 in Santa Clara Co., California
