CIVIL WAR

Isaac was my great, great, grandfather. His family is listed in the 1860 Worth County, Georgia census. He died in the Civil War battle that took place in the town of Olustee, Florida . This was the largest battle to be fought in the state of Florida. It began in Feb of 1864. Isaac died that month on the 28 Feb 1964. He was original buried their and later re-located to the Barrancas National Cemetery on the Navy Base at Pensacola, Florida.
Isaac Wife is Eliza Sumner Rooks. She in buried in the old Sumner Family cemetery. This is located about 3 miles North to North East from Sumner, Georgia. Isaac and Eliza were married 24 Jul 1845 in Irwin County, Georgia. They had ten children, 2F and 8M.
∼Isaac Rooks was a Private in Company C, the 1st Regiment of The Florida Cavalry. He enlisted into the Union Army at Fort Barrancas, Florida on Dec. 30th 1863 and reported to his post at Fort Barrancas on March 23rd, 1864. He sadly contracted Malaria shortly after arriving at the Fort and passed away less than a month after arriving. While it is not the exciting civil war story some like to tell of him dying in battle, facts are facts and I'll let them support his story. I've attached his death certificate that I began posting 6 to 7 years ago in hopes of quietly clearing up his history, along with all of his enlistment records.

He was born in Jefferson County Florida, the son of Fredrick Rooks and Lydia Bailey. He married Eliza Sumner on July 24rd, 1845 in Irwin Georgia. He had 10 children with Eliza, two daughters and eight sons!
