Funeral services for Billy Brown Freeman, Regional 1 coordinator for the Alabama Law Enforcement Planning Agency (LEPA), will be today at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home, Dr. A.B. VanArsdale and Rev. Dan Kilgore officiating, with burial in Decatur City Cemetery.

Mr. Freeman, 48, 2307 Dogwood Lane SE, died Friday at Decatur General Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Freeman had been employed by LEPA since 1969. He became Region 1 coordinator July 1, 1970. Prior to joining LEPA, he was associated with Freeman Enterprises. LEPA's region 1 offices are located in Huntsville.

He graduated from Decatur High School in 1941. While in high school, he starred in football and baseball. He attended the University of Mississippi on a football scholarship and also attended Athens College.

During World War II, he served with Third Marine Division and saw action in the South Pacific. He was the past commander of the Decatur VFW post.

Freeman became ill Thursday night after he returned home from a supervisory staff meeting in Montgomery. He died Friday at 2:35 p.m. from a ruptured pancreas, hospital officials said.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Laurie Freeman; two daughters, Linda and Robin Freeman; two sons, Billy and Jerry Freeman; parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Freeman, all of Decatur; three brothers, Roy Freeman, Tucson, Ariz; Bobby Freeman, Auburn; and the Rev. Jack Freeman, Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Bo Davis, Jerry Crabtree, David Dobbs, Chalmers Riley, Cecil Quillan, Bill Bailey, Ross Hawkins, John D. Sherrill.
