1st US Artillery; First Sgt, New York Marine Light Artillery, Company A. According to the information on his marker, German native Strand served in the 1st US Artillery. There is a very good possibility that he is the same man who enlisted as a private in NYC on 05 September 1861, and immediately mustered into the NY Marine Light Artillery. If he served in that unit, then he was promoted to First Sergeant, confined for mutiny under criminal charges, and dishonorably discharged on 05 May 1863. His last residence was at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn.
