Husband of Sarah Lyman Bridgman, married in 1642.

His origins are unknown at this time. He was at Hartford in 1641, Springfield in 1645, and Northampton in 1654/5. His is the first death recorded at Northampton.

Children: Sarah Bridgman Tileston, John Bridgman, Thomas Bridgman, Martha Bridgman Dickinson, Mary Bridgman Bartlett(wife of Samuel Bartlett), James Bridgman Jr, Patience Bridgman, and Hezekiah Bridgman.

His daughter, Mary Bridgeman Bartlett, died under suspicious circumstances, which led to witchcraft charges being brought against Mary Bliss Parsons, wife of Joseph Parsons, the richest man in Springfield. Mary Parsons was acquitted of the charge.
