Her parents were John Leslie and Jane Mc Elwee. Margaret was the first cousin once removed of President Andrew Jackson. As a child Margaret Leslie moved with her parents to Barren County,Kentucky about 1807;then to Humphreys County, Tennessee about 4 years after that. Her mother died about 1817. As a grown woman she moved with her father and family to Carroll County, Tennessee in the 1820s. It was there that she married David Vanpool born in 1792 in North Carolina who was a widower with four children. They were married Jan 26, 1826. She had 9 children, Rowan Vanpool, John Carroll Vanpool, Mary Jane Vanpool (Marr: Short), Samuel Arby Vanpool (Marr: Emeline Merritt), Margaret Ann Vanpool, Sarah Lawcena Vanpool,Wm. Calvin Vanpool,Frances Ellen Vanpool, and Rufus Vanpool.
