Civil War Veteran. Enlisted on 8/8/1862 as a Private. On 9/3/1862 he mustered into "E" Co. 125th Illinois Infantry.
He was Mustered Out on 6/9/1865 at Washington, D.C.

"DEATH TAKES JEHU HARLAN AGED CITIZEN.

LONG AND USEFUL LIFE.

Expired Last Evening at His Home on S. Market Street, Urbana - Funeral is Saturday.

Jehu Harlan departed this life at 4:50 o'clock Wednesday [February 26] afternoon at his home on South Market street in this city, after quite a long illness, due to advanced age. He had reached his 86th year some time before his death. He suffered from Bright's disease and blood poisoning.

Jehu Harlan was born Oct. 22, 1822, in Wayne county, Ind[iana]. When the [civil] war broke out he enlisted in the 125th Illinois at Urbana and fought three years. For some years he resided on a farm north of Urbana, but went to Welling[ton], Kan[sas], where he resided for 25 years.

Mr. Harlan is survived by five children, as follows: Mrs. Mattie Brown, Urbana; Jacob Harlan, Lindsburg, Ind., Mrs. Mary Parks, Warsaw, Ind.; Chas. Harlan, St. Joseph, Kan., and Mrs. John Devine, Wichita, Kan.

The body was taken to Liesberg [Leesburg] near Warsaw [Kosciusko County], Ind., at 11 o'clock Wednesday night, accompanied by Mrs. Mattie Brown, her son, Howe Brown. There interment will take place." END
