Erick Abrahamson, one of the earliest settlers in this neighborhood, passed away last Friday at the home of his married daughter in Stillwater at the age of 75. Deceased had during the last 12 years suffered from cancer and constant bleeding sapped his vitality and induced death. He leaves 5 children, one of which is businessman Henry Abrahamson, a young businessman of this village. The funeral which was attended by a large number of friends, took place Tuesday, interment being made in the Methodist Cemetery.

ABRAHAMSON, ERICK/MARGARETA JONSDOTTER

Born 22-Feb-1825 in Vardsnas parish, emigrated 1852 from Ostergotland, married 9-May-1852, d 21-Apr-1900, burial Crescent Beach Cemetery. Joined Chisago Lake Lutheran Church 30-Dec-1855 but soon left the church to join the newly-formed Methodist Episcopal church in Center City. Wife Maja Greta (Margareta) Jonsdotter, born 3-Apr-1826 in Vardsnas parish, emigrated 1852, died 16-Sep-1898, also buried at Crescent Beach.

Erick bought 57 acres of land in 1855, 40 more in 1856 and 40 more in 1871 (Sec 9 of Chisago Lake Twp, North). Erick's death was reported in an obituary in the Svenska Tribunen of 8 May 1900. Svenska Tribunen was a Swedish language newspaper published in Chicago, Illinois.

Erick was one of 12 draftees to make up the quota from Chisago Lake in 1864 during the Civil War. He entered the service at the age of 39 on 24 Aug 1864, joining Co. E, 11th Minn. Inf. Regt. He was discharged 26 June 1865, according to roster records.

The 1885 census for Chisago Lake Township, family 115, shows Erick 50, Margaret 59, Erick Jr 22, and Henry 18. Son Albert, who took the last name of Erickson, is shown in the 1885 census as head of family 116 of Chisago Lake, at age 32. His wife was Ida M., age 21. They had a son, George, 2 months old. In 1895 Albert and Ida are listed with additional children. Albert and Ida are buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Lindstrom, MN.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: The left side of the stone monument lists wife Margaret Abrahamson with birth and death dates that match written records. However, the right side lists A Abrahamson with conflicting month and day to the records. In addition, the "A" initial for the given name is a deviation from the name "Erick".

Daughter Anna Karin was born 31 Jan. 1855 in Chisago Lake. Other children were Carolina, Mary Sofia (married John 0. Olson in 1879), Mathilda (1859), Eric, Peter; Brita, August, Elmira, Ida Mathilda, and Henry Carl. Some of the children took the surname of Erickson.
