Major League Baseball Player. Born John Russell Gibson in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was a catcher for six seasons (1967 to 1972) with the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants. He was a member of the 1967 American League Pennant-winning Red Sox and appeared in two games during the World Series. Gibson enjoyed his most successful season in 1969, when he had 72 hits with a .251 batting average. In 264 career regular season games, he had 181 hits with a .228 batting average.
