Funeral services for Charles Joseph Martin, 79, member of a pioneer Klamath County family, have been set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, from O'Hair's Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Robert Groves, pastor of the Klamath Falls First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Final rites and interment will be in the family plot in Linkville cemetery. He died in his sleep about 6 p.m. last night at the family home, 1953 Lawrence Street, following a long period of ill health.

He was born in July 1879, at Phoenix, Oregon, the son of Thomas and Thirza Martin who brought their family to Klamath County 74 years ago.

His father built the first flour mill in this part of Oregon in Linkville on Link River, which was later moved to the present location of the Chevrolet dealership on South Sixth Street and later to the location at Spring and South Sixth occupied by the Pacific Supply.

Thomas Martin also built the first mill in the town of Merrill. The three sons in the family, Charles, John and Ed Martin, continued operation of the Klamath Falls business for many years as a flour mill. Charles Martin retired in 1944.

He was a member of the Klamath Falls Lodge, No. 1247 BPOE Elks and of the Klamath Falls Rotary club.

Survivors include the widow Lynna, Klamath Falls; a son Charles Franklin Martin of Eagle Point; a daughter Mrs. James (Betty Ree) Akerill of Ashland; one brother, John H. Martin of this city, two sisters, Mr. Mae Anderson and Mrs. Maude Hosley, this city, and two grandchildren.
