Dennis moved to Walterboro from Virginia just two years ago to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a law enforcement officer.
Deputy Compton had served with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office for sixteen months starting as correctional officer at the detention center in June of 2006 and had been promoted to Deputy a short time ago. He was also joined on the force by his cousin, Anthony Buchanan, as well.
He was a son of Linda Buchanan Compton and the late James Carl Compton.
A 1987 graduate of Hayfield High School in Alexandria, VA, Dennis was a member of the Walterboro Moose Lodge and the Eagle Lodge in Alexandria. He was a former disc jockey and was a master bowler. He loved law enforcement, and was a loving son, and a devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his mother of King George, VA, he is survived by his dear wife, Tabatha Rose Compton, his four children, Tabitha Marie Compton of Woodbridge, VA, Kaylee Cheyenne Bowen and Jason Hunter Bowen of Walterboro, and Jayden Noelle Compton of Stafford, VA; one sister, Lisa Ann Austin of King Georgia and his paternal grandmother, Estleen Compton of Marianna, WV; his dear friend, first cousin and one he referred to as his brother, Corporal Anthony Buchanan of Walterboro, as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and also his brother, Timothy Scott Compton.
Dennis would have celebrated his 40th birthday in November.
