Edith was born to Ingeman Jerome Helgeson and Martha Elizabeth Vandervest. She had nine siblings. The memorial has two of them listed as half-siblings, but that is inaccurate. They were her brothers. Her nickname was Teeny. The reason being that she was only 4'11" and wore a size 4 and 1/2 shoe. It is true that great things can come in small packages. Edith married Luverne 24 Jan 1948 in Floyd County, Indiana. They had seven children; two of which died at birth. She had a beautiful singing voice, was artistic and played the harmonica.
