Benjamin Roy Petro, 79, of McCullough Lane died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

He was a plumber for Dunlap Mechanical for many years, retiring in 1983. He was a 50-year, life member of the Moose Lodge, a 50-year member of Plumbers Union and a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike, with the Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday. A Moose memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Petro was born in Franklin, Feb. 1, 1919, the son of Benjamin H. and Bessie Hawkins Petro. He married Wilma Gladys Singer June 27, 1947. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Debra K. Hathaway of Greenwood; brothers, Rex and Meredith Petro, both of Columbus, and Verlyn Petro of Nevada; and a sister, Lenora Nugent of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Theron and Jeral Petro; and sisters, Irene McGuire and Geneva Bennett.
