Holland Jesse Best was born in Omphghent Township in 1843 to William and Catherine Tatum Best. He was the last born child of eight surviving children. He married Mary Elizabeth Camp on January 3, 1866 in Madison County, and was a father of eight children. Holland was a farmer all of his adult life and died on his farm in Omphghent on February 7, 1918.
