He was born June 21, 1920, in Bureau County to Forrest and Bessie (Keets) Lester.
He married Alma (Carr) in 1942. She died in 1966.
He married Helen (Davis) in 1966. She died in 2004.
Mr. Lester worked as a shipping handler at the Hennepin steel plant for many years. He also had a roadside vegetable stand and was well known as "Rube the vegetable guy."
He is survived by one daughter, Joanne (Jim) Hardmeier;
two sons, Jim (Bonnie) Lester and Jerry (Barb) Lester;
five grandchildren, Keith Hardmeier, Krista (Rick) Burash, Brian (Mandy) Lester, Katie Montgomery and Jeri Jane Lester;
three great-grandchildren, Tiffany Hardmeier, Zoe Burash and Mason Burash;
and a niece and special caregiver, Betsy Morgan;
along with numerous other nieces, nephews and stepchildren.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville.
Cremation will follow visitation, and burial will be held at a later date at Putnam Cemetery.
