Sam Corson began employment with the Union Mercantile company in Cheyenne. Eventually, he rose in the ranks to become secretary and treasurer and a major stockholder.

He was a Cheyenne city councilman for 3 years and served a term as Laramie County Commissioner.

In 1895, he was elected to serve in the WY State House of Representatives, and in turn, served 2 terms as a state senator.
