Mrs. Elmer (Helen) Sisler, 87, of 2220 Marion St., died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at home, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mark Ressler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1921, daughter of Albert and Susan (Kies) Eisbach. She graduated from the former Visitation Academy.

She married Elmer Sisler on Sept. 1, 1945, at Church of the Nativity.

Helen was a charter member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, served as secretary and treasurer on their Parish Council and served on the school's board of directors. She also was a member of the Catholic Mothers Study Club, Catholic Daughters of America and the League of Women Voters.

Most important to her was her role as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Elmer; her children, Susan (Dr. William) Dall, of Dubuque, Jane (John) Feltes, of Crystal Lake, Ill., Robert Sisler, of Dubuque, Janet Sisler, of Chicago, Michael (Sheila) Sisler, of Dubuque, Mary (Mark) Bernhard, of Davenport, Iowa, and Sara (Wayne) Jenner, of Lake Bluff, Ill.; a sister, Mary Jane Holtz, of Dubuque; a brother, Bill (Helen) Eisbach, of Dubuque; grandchildren, Michelle (Dirk) Andringa, Molly Glennon, Jennifer (Matthew) Knoll, Julie (Mark) Gaetner, Janet Feltes, Jacqueline Feltes, Emily (Eric) Blair, Nathan (Amber) Sisler, Anne (Brad) Benjamin, Matthew Sisler, Mary Katherine Sisler, Charles P. Sisler, Daniel F. Sisler, John P. Sisler, Kevin M. Sisler, Anthony (Kristen) Bernhard, Kathryn Bernhard, Nicholas Bernhard and Allison Jenner; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Paul Eisbach; and a sister, Dorothy Ressler.
