Sherman Shane, 89, of rural Wyoming, Ill. died at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at his home.

Sherman was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Lawn Ridge, Ill., the son of Sylvester and Rose Wilcox Shane. He married Marie Louise Sammet on May 27, 1943, in Belton, Texas. His wife preceded him in death on April 25, 2006.

Also preceding him in death are one brother and two sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda (and Jerry) Keller of Peoria; two sons, Larry (and Tammy) Shane of Toulon and Gary (and Theresa) Shane of Princeville; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Sherman was a World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific Campaign in New Guinea.

After the war, he farmed in the Wyoming and Toulon areas.

He was a member of the Wyoming American Legion Post No. 91 and the Stark Congregational Church.

For many years, Sherman served on the Stark County Board, Valley School Board and the Heart of Illinois Fair Board.

Burial will be in Lawn Ridge Cemetery, rural Speer.
