Joseph Henry Hinton was bom in Bedford county Pennsylvania on Sept. 25, 1860 and died at his home Oct. 27, 1933, at the age of 73 years one month and two days. When yet quite young he moved with his parents to Dayton, Ohio, where they resided for two years, thence to lowa and Illinois where he grew to manhood, coming to Nebraska in the year 1879. In the year 1882 he was joined in wedlock to Miss Eleanor Purdy. To this union were born three daughters, one of whom, Mrs. Calista Cochrane, proceeded him in death in May 1904; leaving an Infant daughter Vera, whom Mr. Hinton raised as his own. His wife preceeded him in death Mar 30, 1932. On October 6, 1884, Mr. Hinton and family moved to Frontier County, Nebraska where they located on a homestead five miles northwest of Stockville where he since resided. When a young man he joined the United Brethren church and for many years took an active part In church work. He was always considerate of the unfortunate and willing to help the poor and afflicted, freely giving them food and shelter and those neesities he knew they needed. Mr. Hinton was a kind and indulgent parent and a good neighber. He was an accomplished musician. Music seemed a part of his life and he gladdened his home and community, bringing sunshine to many hearts with the music of his violin; always cheerfully responding when asked to play. Mr. Hinton leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Churchill of near Stockville and Cora Minton of Laird, Colo., four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two brothers and five sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by all but he was ready and willing to go to his reward.
