Jacob Dewalt, farmer, post office Castle Shannon, was born in 1816, in Borchen, Germany, son of Jacob and Catherine (Shram) Dewalt, also natives of Germany. Their children were Peter, David, Adam, Jacob, Catherine, Caroline, Elizabeth and Mrs. Mary Heine (who is still living in Germany). Of these Jacob came to America in 1837, and for a time worked on the canals and rivers. Later he turned his attention to farming, was successful and now owns eighty acres of land in Baldwin township; he married Catherine Kine (sic: Keim), and their children are John and Peter (twins), William, George and Mrs. Mary Handenstein (sic: Augenstein). Mr. and Mrs. Dewalt are members of the G. L. Church, in which he has held many offices. He is a democrate, and has filled various township offices.

Will:
In The Name Of God, Amen.
I, Jacob Dewalt, of Baldwin Township, County of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish and declare this to be my Last Will And Testament, in manner and form following; hereby revoking any will or wills heretofore made by me.
First: I direct all my just debts and funeral expenses to be fully paid and satisfied, as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. I give and bequest all my real, personal and mixed property to my beloved wife Catharine Dewalt, to hold and keep during her natural lifetime, and after her death, I give, devise and bequeath to my son Jacob Dewalt, five Hundred Dollars $500. I give, devise and bequeath to my older daughter which is now death (sic) to her three Children of my daughter Catharine should die before twenty one years of age his or their share to be received by the remaining Child or Children, of my daughter Catherine Grant children of myn (sic) and if all three should die the part which I hereby bequeath them to revert to my one Children of my estate, and be divided equally among them; I give, devise and bequeath to my sons John, Peter, William, George and Mary all the Raminter (sic) of my Property of every description to be divided among them five Children share and share alike. And I do nominate and appoint my son Wm. Dewalt, to be the Executor of this my last will and testament.
In Testimony Whereof, I, The said Jacob Dewalt, have to this, my last will and testament, subscribed my name and affixed my seal, this 24th day of April, A.D. One thousand and eight hundred and seventy four. Jacob DEWALD (SEAL). Dewalt--On Tuesday, January 5, 1892, at 9:30 A.M., Jacob Dewalt, aged 75 years, 7 months, and 18 days. Funeral on Thursday, at 1 P.M. from his late residence, Castle Shannon, PA. Friends are invited. Trains depart from South Side depot Castle Shannon railroad at 11:30 A.M. for Castle Shannon. Carriage departs from Semmelrock Bros`, funeral directors, No. 1720 Carson st., at 10:30 A.M.

His parents original names were Jakob Theobald and Catherine Schramm. His son Jacob was by his fist wife, Catherine Ruch. The son Jacob used the surname DeBolt and lived in West Virginia. The other children used the spelling Dewalt.
