From his obituary found in "The Flint Journal Newspaper," located in Flint, Michigan: Winstanley, Herbert of Arcadia, Florida, age 85, died Tuesday, July 6, 1982 at St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, Florida. Funeral will be held Saturday, July 10, at the Raysin Funeral Home, Davison, Michigan, Rev. Charles R. Marble officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Masonic Memorial Services will be conducted by Davison Lodge #236 F&AM, Friday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Ft. Ogden United Methodist Church. Mr. Winstanley was born in Wigan Lancaster, England, March 6, 1897, and had resided in the Flint area since 1923 and in Florida since 1969. He married the former Majorie (Ballou) Barlow in 1969. He was a veteran of World War I serving in the Great Britain Armed Services. Mr. Winstanley and Mr. Walter Booth started the Burton Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1938 and owned it's only fire truck for the first 10 years. He served as Fire Commissioner for Station 2 from 1938-1968. He also served Burton Township as Constable, Justice of the Peace and Trustee during 1938-1968. He was active in the Boy Scouts organization for many years, receiving the Silver Beaver award. He was a member of the Canadian Legion for 38 years serving as its commander twice. He was past Master and member of Davison Masonic Lodge #236 F&AM, a member of the Bay City Consistory, Elf Khurafeh Temple, Charlotte County Shrine, Port Charlotte, Florida, attended the Ft.Ogden United Methodist Church. Mr. Winstanley and his brother-in-law, Walter Booth, owned and operated a hardware and grocery store at Belsay and Lapeer Roads for 35 years.
