Mr. Lichter was born at Wolsdorf, Prussia, December 2d 1833. At the age of 19 years he came to this country, locating at Dubuque, Iowa, where on December 1st 1860, he was married to Miss Anna M. Schlick.
They came to Minnesota and to Houston County in 1864 and settled on a farm in Sheldon township which later they sold. They then bought a farm only about two miles north of this village where they lived until a few years ago when they sold the farm to their son, William and moved into town.
He is survived by his wife and twelve children, all of whom were here to attend the funeral, viz: William, John, Mrs. Peter Molitor, Mrs. Emil Kriese, Peter and Jennie of Caledonia; Michael of Rivertown, Neb., Nicholas of Verina, Iowa; Mrs. Geo. Stroben, Philip, Jacob and Mrs. Math Keyser of Remsen, Iowa.
The deceased was of a quiet, unassuming and cheerful disposition, of industrious habits, unimpeachable character, in short, an honest man, well liked and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The funeral, which despite the inclement weather was largely attended, took place from the St. Peter's Catholic church, Saturday forenoon at 10 o'clock, Rev. H. von den Berg, officiating.
Among those from abroad who were here to attend the funeral were John Meyers and wife of Luxembourg, IA; Nick Lester of Holy Cross and Mrs. N. Hickels of Dyersville, Iowa.
