Her obituary was published in the Rideau Record. The Late Mrs. John Code

The death occurred in Montague on Monday, October 15th, of Ann Lucas, wife of Mr. John Code, after an illness of several months of general decline. The deceased was born on the fourth line of Montague seventy-four years ago and had lived in this vicinity all her life. The late Mrs. Code was highly esteemed by all, though not one to take part in public work was faithful in all her many duties of the home and true friend and aid to all in time of sickness and trouble. She will be greatly missed in her home. The deceased leaves to mourn her loss her husband, three sons- Albert, Abraham and Benjamin - and one daughter, Mrs. Emma Lewis. (It will be remembered that another daughter, Mrs. Wm. James, was fatally injured in this vicinity four months ago). There are also four brothers, James and William Henry who attended the funeral, and George and Thomas residing in the West.

A large number of friends gathered at St. Bede's church in Montague on Wednesday afternoon that they might pay their last respects to the memory of the deceased. It was expected that Rev. R. B. Waterman of Carp and for many years rector of Montague, would have been present, but he sent word that he was unable to come. The service was in charge of the rector, Rev. Wm. Westell, who spoke of the untiring energy, the patience, the constant cheerfulness of the deceased lady. Such as were faithful in all the ordinary duties of life, when done from the right motive - and was not throught for others always a right motive - were just as much included in the text, "Blessed are the dead who die in the lord from henceforth," as those who did some great service for their fellowmen. Continuing further on the text, the speacker said, "What did those words, 'from henceforth' signify?" Did they not mean that wereas before the triumphant return of Christ from the unknown world of darkness. Even good men were afraid to die. Now the messenger of God is inspired to say, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." Christ came back and says there is nothing to fear. True it is that such words are only for those who 'die in the Lord,' that is, those who caught the spirit of Jesus and by a constant life of self-denial are living for others and that can be done just as much in the home as in the foreign mission field. And such are 'blessed' or happy, because they rest from their labors, the pains and ills, the temptations of this life are left behind. But their works follow them. All useful service done here is remembered hereafter. The training received here will be put to good use hereafter, and furthermore Christ will say, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of the Lord."

After the service the remains were laid to rest in the pretty churchyard, nestleing between the church and the (cannot read the rest)
